Coach Peter Cutler

Peter Cutler

Now entering his 13th year at SUNY Potsdam, Coach Cutler is the longest tenured cross country coach in the SUNYAC Conference.  During this time he has brought unprecedented success that includes a first ever NCAA All America (Jodie Schoppmann) as well as numerous other conference awards and recognitions.  Prior to coaching SUNY Potsdam Cross Country, Cutler helped establish Running/Track Clubs at SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Canton.  He also served as an Assistant Coach for the Potsdam High School Girls Section X Champion Team and was an Assistant Coach for the SUNY Potsdam Swimming & Diving team.  Since the 1990’s Cutler has also co-directed races and personally coached multiple successful athletes, for cycling, running and triathlon events.

Cutler has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master of Science in Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction. He has earned certifications with USA Track & Field as a Level 1 and Level 2 (Sprints/Hurdles/Relays) Coach, as well as certification from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for Technical Track & Field Coaching.

Cutler's extensive athletic resume includes wins at multiple regional races, racing as a USA Triathlon Pro/Elite Triathlete, competing in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, being a gold medalist at the NY State Empire Games, qualifying for NJCAA Cross Country Nationals, being an MVP & Captain of multiple Cross Country & Track teams, competing in NCAA varsity swimming and being named to his High School Track & Field Hall of Fame.   

In addition to coaching duties, Cutler also serves SUNY Potsdam as the Assistant Director for the Center for Graduate Studies and the Chair of the Faculty Senate Nominating Committee.

Cutler and his wife Amy, a former All American distance runner, Duathlon National Champion, Ironman Triathlete and former cross country coach, live happily with their daughter, in Potsdam, NY.  They enjoy outdoor activities and cultural events from the area.
