Merrill scored five goals in one league weekend for the Bears. She struck twice in a 6-4 loss at No. 15 Oswego State on Friday. Then became part of history in a 4-1 win at Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon. Potsdam's captain recorded her first career hat trick against the Bengals including the game-winner and two short-handed goals during the same penalty. She was the first Bear to achieve the feat and helped Potsdam become just the second team in DIII history to score three short-handed goals during the same penalty kill.
