Jay Green

Coach Jay Green enters his 13th season as the head of the women's hockey program at SUNY Potsdam. He was also at the helm during the team's '07-'08 club year, as well as its inaugural year of varsity action in '08-'09.

Last season, Green's led the team to a late season surge to claim the two seed in the NEWHL Tournament and host the first home playoff game in program history. Rylie Murray was named first team All-NEWHL while Miranda Kolb was second team and Ellie Cleary earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team.

In 2017-18, Green guided the Bears to a 12-12-2 mark and a 4-10-2 record in the first season of the NEWHL. He earned his second Coach of the Year honor and helped goaltender Samantha White earn the Rookie for the Year award. Anna-Rose Bertin and Delphine Léonard were named to the All-NEWHL second team.

In 2016-17, Green's squad returned to the playoffs with overall and conference wins program marks (12-13-1, 8-9-1 ECAC West). Senior Jordan Ott finished her career with an NCAA-era school record of 107 points and a second team all-conference nod. Freshmen Alexa Pfeiffer and Delphine Léonard were named to the ECAC West All-Rookie Team.

In 2015-16, Green's squad posted a 9-14-2 mark (4-13-1 ECAC West). Junior Jordan Ott set the program's goals record, reaching 47 for her career. She was named honorable mention All-ECAC West, third team All-USCHO and third team D3Hockey All-East Region.

In Green's eighth season, the Bears skated to a 9-15-1 record, including a 5-12-1 mark in the ECAC West. Jordan Ott earned honorable mention all-conference honors. Potsdam was 7-6-1 in the friendly confines of Maxcy Ice Arena.

In 2013-14, Green guided the Bears to the postseason for the third straight year and fourth time in five seasons. Potsdam matched the program record for overall and conference wins with 12-10-4 and 7-5-4 marks, respectively. The Bears got standout performances from USCHO.com Rookie of the Year Jordan Ott and All-USCHO second team Brittany Lucky. The duo also earned All-ECAC West second team and honorable mention honors, while goaltender Abby Tardelli earned a spot on the conference all-rookie team.

In 2012-13, the Bears posted a 10-14-2 record and returned to the playoffs for the third time in the last four seasons. Potsdam went 6-5-1 at Cheel Arena, where the Bears played their home games during Maxcy's renovations.

During the 2011-12 campaign, Green guided the Bears to a 12-10-3 mark (7-8-3 ECAC West), a program record for wins, as well the team's second playoff appearance. He then coached his team to a 2-1 upset over No. 7 Elmira in the conference quarterfinals for the Bears first ever playoff victory. Green was named the 2011-12 ECAC West Coach of the Year.

Coach Green has been involved with Potsdam Bears Hockey for over 10 years as an assistant men's coach and hockey school instructor. He was a four-year letterman at Elmira College and a member of two NCAA Final Four teams, including the 1980 squad which reached the NCAA championship game.

Coach Green continued his playing career in Sweden for two seasons with Tingsryd AIF and Sudrets HC. Upon completion of his playing career, he served as an assistant coach at Elmira for two seasons before becoming head coach for one season at North Adams State (Mass.) College. He then returned to coach in Sweden for two seasons with Sudrets HC before returning to the U.S.

Upon his return to the states, Green coached at the high school level for several years and has worked as an instructor at a number of camps, including SUNY Potsdam, Elmira College and the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Coach Green received his bachelor's from Elmira in 1980 and a master's in special education from Mansfield State (Pa.) College in 1988.
