Box Score The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team matched its all-time wins record for a season with a 3-0 non-conference victory at Morrisville St. on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior
Cortney Poirier (Moira, N.Y.) scored twice in the match for the Bears (10-8), who scored just under eight minutes into the match and never looked back.
“It was a good team performance,” Potsdam coach Tim Moody said. “We got the goals we needed, and we battled and worked hard after playing down two players in the first half.”
Potsdam dominated possession from the onset, outshooting the Mustangs (1-13) 34-3 in the contest despite being down to nine players on the field in the first half after using all substitutions and suffering a pair of injuries.
Freshman
Ashley Thayer (Winthrop, N.Y.) tallied the game's first goal off a cross from sophomore
Heather Johnson (Heuvelton, N.Y.). The forward now has eight goals, continuing her stellar rookie campaign.
Poirier, who leads the team with 11 goals for the season, added insurance goals in the 36th and 66th minutes.
“I'm happy with the way we played,” Moody said. “When we score goals, we can beat anybody.”
Junior goalkeeper
Caitlin Titus (Jamesville, N.Y.) recorded her third shutout of the year.
The Bears close out their State University of New York Athletic Conference schedule this Saturday at Plattsburgh. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
