Bears defeated in three by Golden Knights

Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team was unable to defeat its cross-town rival for the third time this season, falling at Clarkson 25-11, 25-15, 25-12 in non-conference action Tuesday night.

The Bears (6-24) lost in all three matches this season against the Golden Knights, who were an NCAA Tournament qualifier in 2009.

In the second set, Potsdam jumped out to a 7-3 advantage before Clarkson won 19 of the next 22 points to take a 22-10 lead. The Bears scored five of the next seven points but it was too late as the Golden Knights would go on to take the frame. Potsdam was unable to carry the momentum in the third as Clarkson scored seven straight points after the teams were tied at 6-6 to win the set going away.

Clarkson (23-6) jumped out to a quick start in the match, hitting its way to a 20-8 advantage before closing out the set.

Junior Sam Strader (Watertown, N.Y.) led the offense with seven kills, while freshman Dakota Pruiss (Wallkill, N.Y.), playing at setter for the first time this season, totaled nine assists and eight digs. Senior captain Erica Romaniello (Selden, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 11 digs. Freshman Annie Smith (Burke, N.Y.) added four kills.

The Bears wrap up their 2010 campaign this Saturday with matches against St. John Fisher and host Geneseo.
