Bears battle to tie at MCLA

Box Score Senior captain Tim Ciampa's goal in the 66th minute allowed the SUNY
Potsdam men's soccer team to earn a 1-1 tie in double overtime against
MCLA Sunday at the CIAO Classic in North Adams, Mass.

Ciampa (Castleton, N.Y.), who also scored in Saturday's match against St.
Joseph's (N.Y.), was set up when junior Chris Mack (South Glens Falls,
N.Y.) battled for a loose ball in the middle.

"Chris kept the ball alive and Tim put it in the open net," Potsdam coach
Adam Parker said. "It was Tim's second goal of the season, so it's been a
bright spot so far that we're able to get him going."

Ciampa's equalizer offset a goal by the Trailblazers (2-1-1) on a free
kick in the 19th minute.

The Bears (0-3-1) out-shot MCLA 23-18 in the game. Potsdam gave itself
several opportunities to take the lead in the second half, including a
penalty kick in the 75th minute.

"We made one mistake, but our effort was much better and we were a
dangerous attacking team today," Parker said. "It's the first time we've
out-shot a team this season."

The two teams combined for 39 fouls and six yellow cards. Sophomore
goalkeeper Joe Glackin (Latham, N.Y.) tallied nine saves for the Bears,
who have yet to compete at home in regular season play.

Potsdam returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Canton. Kickoff is
slated for 7 p.m.
