Box Score The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team saw its four-match winning streak snapped Friday with a 4-0 loss in its State University of New York Athletic Conference opener at Geneseo.
The Bears (7-2 overall, 0-1 SUNYAC) battled in the second half after
surrendering three goals in the first period as the Blue Knights took a
commanding lead into the half.
Potsdam nearly scored early in the first when junior
Jess Mehm (Schroon Lake, N.Y.) took a shot off a corner by junior
Dedra Palmer (Whitesboro, N.Y.) in the second minute.
"We had chances on two early corner kicks, and if we had converted on one of those, I think the outcome of the game could have been different," Potsdam coach Tim Moody said. "Unfortunately, we made some mental mistakes that led to goals."
In the second half, the Bears played more evenly with the Blue Knights
(6-1, 2-0), only allowing one goal, a header off a corner kick.
Geneseo totaled 34 shots as a team in the contest, but many weren't
dangerous opportunities, Moody noted.
"We made some changes in the second half and we were better," Moody said.
"The game was a lot closer than the stats indicated. It was a good learning experience for the team."
Sophomore goalkeeper Kim Callahan (Centereach, N.Y.) tallied 10 saves for the Bears.
Potsdam returns to play tomorrow at Brockport. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
