Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team swept Plattsburgh 27-25, 25-23, 25-18 to pick up its first league win of the season in its second contest at the State University of New York Athletic Conference East Division play date at New Paltz.

The Bears (5-10 overall, 1-1 SUNYAC) were defeated 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-14) in their first match of the day against Cortland.

"We're 1-1, so I'm OK with where we're at," Potsdam coach Steve Pike said. "Cortland could be the best team in the conference. We put together good points against them at times, but now we need to add consistency to our play."

Potsdam controlled play for the majority of the match against Plattsburgh (2-12, 0-2), receiving key contributions from middle hitters Anne Fildes (Red Hook, N.Y.) and Kayla Howard (Marcellus, N.Y.).

Junior Sam Strader (Watertown, N.Y.) played well in both matches on the day, posting eight kills and 10 digs against Plattsburgh.

"Sam Strader really scored well for us and was the offensive weapon we know she can be," Pike said. "It was also good to have (freshman) Dakota Pruiss (Wallkill, N.Y.) out there to make her season debut near her hometown."

Freshman Jenna Blujus (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) totaled 25 digs, whole classmate Annie Smith (Burke, N.Y.) recorded seven kills. Fildes notched three service aces and senior captain Erica Romaniello (Selden, N.Y.) tallied a team-high 19 digs.

Against Cortland (15-3, 2-0), Strader led the offense with 12 kills, while Smith contributed with seven. Blujus added 20 assists, while Romaniello registered seven digs.

The Bears continue SUNYAC East play tomorrow against Oneonta at 12 p.m. and New Paltz at 2 p.m.
