BUFFALO, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (3-8-2, 0-6 SUNYAC) jumped out to 1-0 lead, but Buffalo State (6-7-1, 1-4-1) rallied for the 3-1 win on Friday afternoon. Junior forward
Heather Johnson scored the lone goal for the Bears.
Potsdam got on the board in the 10th minute as Johnson picked up a loose ball and walked in all alone to give the Bears a 1-0 advantage.
“We talked about coming out strong and taking the initiative and we got the goal,” said Potsdam Head Coach
Mark Misiak. “Unfortunately, our goal seemed to set us back on our heels and they had us down 3-1 at halftime.”
In the 26th minute, Katie Hennes scored on a rebound to tie the game. 11 minutes later, Amanda Sauer found the back of the net from 20 yards out and M.J. Maitland-Walker headed in the final tally at 42:31.
The Bears played much better in the second half, but were unable to get back into the contest.
Potsdam senior goalkeeper
Dedra Palmer finished with nine saves. Bengals goalie Virginia Porten made three stops.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow at Fredonia State at 1 p.m.
