PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam volleyball earned a split in SUNYAC Pool Play this afternoon. The Bears lost in three sets to New Paltz, but bounced back to beat Plattsburgh in three.

In the first match, the Hawks (18-9, 4-2 SUNYAC) were too much for Potsdam. New Paltz would win the first set by a score of 25-20 and then jump out to a 17-10 lead in the second. The Bears would rally and take eight straight points and the lead. However, a tough call prevented Potsdam from taking the set and New Paltz would ride the momentum to close it out. The Bears weren't able to come back in the third set and fell, 25-12. For the match, Potsdam was led by sophomore Dakota Pruiss with 10 kills. Junior Jenna Blujus  chipped in 18 assists and 18 digs and junior Jillian Dye added 10 digs.  

The Bears had no time off in between matches, and had to take on the hosts, Plattsburgh State. The Cardinals (12-15, 0-6) were celebrating senior night but it was the Bears seniors who would lead their team to victory. Samantha Strader, Allison Metot and Jessica Archinal keyed the win. Strader led the team with 8 kills and Metot was right behind her with 7. Archinal added three aces and six digs as Potsdam won by scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-14.

Head Coach Steve Pike was proud of how his team responded. “We didn't execute against New Paltz but we had to come right back,” said Pike. “We came out against Plattsburgh and took the lead then maintained it. I am proud of them for that.”
Potsdam (19-12, 2-4) returns to action tomorrow in the last day of conference play. The Bears take on Cortland at noon and then Oneonta at 2 p.m.
