FREDONIA, N.Y.—The Fredonia Blue Devils (11-11-1, 6-7-1 SUNYAC) exploded for five second period goals en route to an 8-0 victory over the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (6-15-1, 4-10) Friday night. The loss eliminates the Bears from SUNYAC playoff contention.
Fredonia jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period before putting the game out of reach with the five-goal outburst in the second and tacking on the final tally in the third. Steve Rizer scored two goals to lead the Blue Devil offense. Potsdam junior goalie
Kevin McFarland (St. Louis, Mo./Woodstock Slammers) started between the pipes allowing six goals in 31:53 and making 18 saves. Bears junior goaltender
Trevor O'Neill (Bobcaygeon, Ontario/Stouffville Spirit) played the remainder of the game, allowing two goals and stopping 14 shots in 28:07. Fredonia's Mark Friesen made 27 saves for the shutout.
The Blue Devils were 3-9 on the power play, while Potsdam finished 0-3.
The Bears finish their Western New York swing with a 7 p.m. face off tomorrow at Buffalo State.
