Plattsburgh, N.Y.—Third-ranked SUNY Plattsburgh (15-2-3, 11-1-2 ECAC West) jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and went on to the 6-1 victory over the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (8-12-1, 4-10). Brittany Meade scored two goals to lead the Cardinals and freshman forward Jessica Silveira (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) scored a power-play goal for the Bears.

Plattsburgh got goals from Megan DiJulio, Brittany Meade, and Kylie Klassen in an eight-minute span midway through the first period. With 54 seconds left, freshman forward Jessica Silveira (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) got Potsdam on the board with a power-play goal on assists from freshman forward Emma Smetaniuk (Frankford, Ontario/Whitby Wolves) and junior defenseman Brandi Atwell (Cornwall, Ontario/Cornwall Typhoons).

The Cardinals stayed in control for the remainder of the contest adding a goal in the second period and two more in the third. Justine Fisher increased Plattsburgh's lead to 5-1 at 10:45 of the second period. Meade scored her second of the game on the power play at 4:24 of the final stanza and Kara Buehler tacked on the final goal at the 11:17.

Bears freshman goaltender Dawna Salvarinas (Mississauga, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) finished with 44 saves, while Cardinal Sydney Aveson stopped 18 shots. Potsdam was 1-4 on the power play and Plattsburgh went 1-8.

Potsdam returns home for two crucial conference games against Neumann College on Feb. 12-13. The Bears square off against the Knights at 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
