Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team dropped the conference opener to Plattsburgh State. Renee Egan and Emily LaLone found the back of the net for the Cardinals.
Potsdam would assist the visitors 8 minutes into the first half when theCardinals corner kick was knocked it by a Potsdam defender in an attempt to clear the ball. The Bears were out-shot in the first half but remained only one goal down thanks to stellar play from freshman goal keeper
Katrina Rowland who had eight saves. Potsdam's best chance came off the right foot of freshman
Kate Clauss but was saved by the Cardinals stopper.
The Cardinals (3-2-2, 1-0 SUNYAC) extended their lead in the second half with a couple quick strikes. Egan and LaLone's goals were scored only 2:23 minutes apart, giving the Cardinals a three goal lead. The bright spot for the Bears was their freshman keeper. Rowland would finish the game with 11 saves in her first game back after suffering a concussion in the second game of the season.
"There were definitely some positives to take out of the game," said head coach
Mark Misiak. "The goals they scored showed us what we need to work on defensively."
Potsdam (3-2-2, 0-1) returns to action on Sept. 30 when they travel to Oswego for a 4 p.m. match.
