POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team fell 3-0 to Clarkson University in its first home match of the season. The loss snaps the Bears' four-match winning streak Potsdam opened the season with.
The Golden Knights (5-0) used their speed to attack the Bears (4-1) from the outset. Clarkson defeated Potsdam by scores of 25-7, 25-14, and 25-11. Senior outside hitter
Samantha Strader (Watertown, N.Y./South Jefferson) led the Bears' offense with six kills.
“They outplayed,” said Bears Head Coach Steve Pike. “They ran a faster offense than we'd seen so far and we didn't adjust. They exposed areas where we still need to improve. Areas where we will improve by the next time we see them.”
The Bears are back in action on Sept. 9-10, when they host the 2011 Victory Promotions Invitational. Friday, Potsdam hosts Hartwick at 4 p.m. and Hamilton at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the Bears face Southern Vermont at 11 a.m. and SUNYIT at 3 p.m.
