POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Collegiate Village student housing complex has joined SUNY Potsdam Athletic Department's "Bears Mean Business" program. As part of the partnership the company will be the title sponsor of Potsdam's season-opening men's and women's soccer tournaments. The third annual SUNY Potsdam soccer tournament will now be the 2013 Collegiate Village Cup.
"We could not be more pleased with this collaboration," said Jamie Jueckstock, Community Manager and Director of Residence Life at Collegiate Village of Potsdam. "Our company strives to give back and be an active member of the community. We are very happy that one of our first cooperative community partnerships in Potsdam is with SUNY Potsdam Athletics. We are located right across the street from the athletic fields and we can always see games and activities taking place. We are really excited to be able to sponsor this tournament and support our neighbors!"
The men's tournament kicks off on Friday, August 30 with a 1:30 p.m. matchup between Plattsburgh State and Rutgers-Newark. The Bears open their season at 4 p.m. against Lyndon State. On Saturday, Potsdam battles Rutgers-Newark at 11 a.m. followed by the 1:30 p.m. contest between Plattsburgh and Lyndon.
"This sponsorship gives us a tremendous boost for the first campus athletics' event of the season," said Bears men's coach Adam Parker. "It goes a long way in providing a great experience for our team members and of our opponents as well."
The women's tournament begins on Saturday, August 31 following the conclusion of the Cardinals-Hornets game. Castleton State will take on Becker College at 4 p.m. followed by the Bears opener against New England College at 6:30 p.m. The women's competition will wrap up with two matches on Sunday, Sept. 1. New England will square off with Becker at noon and the Bears will face Castleton at 2:30 p.m.
"We feel very privileged to be able to host such an event and are extremely fortunate to be able to have Collegiate Village as our title sponsor," Bears women's coach Mark Misiak added. "This is a fantastic opportunity for our girls to play in big matches in front of our own fans."
Elmira won the inaugural men's tournament in 2011, while Castleton State edged the Bears in double-overtime last season. Potsdam hammered Cazenovia 6-0 last year to capture the first ever women's cup.

Collegiate Village, located right across Outer Main St. from Maxcy Hall, offers college students with yet another housing alternative.
