BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport (9-5-1, 3-4-1) blanked the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (6-9-1, 1-7), 3-0 on Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles scored two goals in the first period and one in the second to take the conference victory.
Brockport got on the scoreboard first just under 19 minutes into the contest when Caylia Carmona fired a shot into the top left corner of the goal off the foot of Chelsea Stahl. A minute later, the Bears looked to strike back when freshman forward
Jaci Morr (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) shot for the goal, but the ball rang the post and sailed back into play. Carmona and Stahl struck again at 24:19. Stahl rocketed a shot into the bottom left corner after a pass from Carmona. Junior forward
Erin McClusky (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) gave Potsdam another first half opportunity, but Brockport goalkeeper Catherine Eliasson handled the shot. The Eagles took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Bears' defense stayed tough in the second half, fending off seven shots from Brockport, but the Eagles found a way to tack on another goal. The Bears fouled Brockport with 13 minutes left to go in the contest and Katie found the back of the net on a free kick from just outside the box, for the game's final and a 3-0 lead.
Junior goalie
Emily Lapage (Brushton, N.Y./Brushton-Moira) finished with five saves, while Eliasson had two for the win.
Potsdam is back in action tomorrow, when the Bears head to SUNY Geneseo to battle the Knights at 1 p.m.
