POTSDAM, NY.—Junior defender Georgia Traynor (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) scored with 57 seconds left in double-overtime to lift Oswego State (5-4-1, 2-0-1 SUNYAC) to a 3-2 victory over the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-2) on Friday afternoon. Freshman forward
Jaci Morr (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) scored both goals for the Bears.
Morr struck quickly for Potsdam. In the third minute, the freshman striker handled a pass from sophomore defender
Sara Livecchi (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook) and lofted it over 5-2 Laker goalie Alyssa Glasshagel (Coram, N.Y./Newfield) for a 1-0 lead. Oswego turned up the pressure after the goal and appeared to tie the game 11 minutes later, but Laker freshman midfielder Emma Geyer (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) was ruled offside. Four minutes after that Oswego junior midfielder Bailey Waterbury (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) was robbed by Bears junior goalie
Emily Lapage (Brushton, N.Y./Brushton-Moira). However, the Lakers finally tied the score when senior forward Tia Sangretto (Memphis, N.Y./Jordan-Elbridge) took the ball in by herself and drove it home. Morr responded with her second goal just 1:07 later on a very similar play to her first tally. Senior defender
Nina Komosinski (Akron, N.Y./Akron) assisted on the goal. Potsdam carried the 2-1 advantage into the break.
Oswego continued its momentum in the second half. Just over seven minutes into the final period, Segretto set up sophomore forward Nicole Perniciaro (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) to tie the score. The Lakers continued to pressure for much of the second half, but Lapage and the Bears' defense were able to keep Oswego off the board for the rest of regulation.
The Bears put two shots on Glasshagel in the first overtime, but neither team was able to net the game-winner. In the second overtime, Potsdam had strong chances from junior forward
Erin McClusky (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) with eight minutes left and Morr nearly notched the decisive tally a minute later, but Glasshagel came up big on both attempts. With 57.6 seconds left, Traynor ended the contest when her corner kick deflected off a Bear defender and crossed the goal line.
Glasshagel earned the win with seven saves, while Lapage finished with 10 stops.
