POTSDAM, N.Y.—Eighth-ranked Oswego State (7-1-2, 5-1-1 SUNYAC) scored four second period goals on its way to a 7-1 victory over the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (4-4-1, 2-4-1) on Saturday evening at Maxcy Ice Arena. Sophomore forwards Krystian Yorke (Barrie, Ontario/Trenton Golden Hawks) and Shawn Hulshof (Stouffville, Ontario/Trenton Golden Blades) each scored twice for the Lakers. Senior forward Trevor Cope (Swartz Creek, Mich./Atlanta Jr. Knights) scored the Bears' lone goal.
 
Oswego outshot Potsdam 17-7 in the opening stanza, but was mostly frustrated by junior goalie Austin Keiser (Dunwoody, Ga./Boston Bulldogs). At the 9:52 mark, senior defenseman Mike Wills (Oakwood, Ontario/Merrimack College) gave the Lakers the lead for good.
 
Oswego took control of the contest in the second period. Hulshof tipped home his first at the 4:18 mark. Just 1:47 later, Yorke made it a 3-0 contest. He struck again at the 14:23 mark and sophomore forward Andrew Barton (Stratford, Ontario/Stratford Cullitons) finished a pretty passing play to give Oswego a 5-0 lead heading into the second intermission.
 
Senior goaltender Shane Talarico (Greensburg, Pa./Elmira College) replaced Keiser to start the third period and put on a solid performance. However, sophomore forward Kenny Neil finally solved Talarico with a shot from the slot at 13:28. The Bears finally got on the board 1:33 later. After breaking out, junior captain Todd Thomas (Davidsville, Pa./Hartford Wolfpack) sent a pass ahead to senior assistant captain Ken Simon (Norwell, Mass./Philadelphia Revolution). Simon carried the puck into the Oswego zone and sent it across the crease where Cope was waiting to knock it home. At 18:55, Hulshof got his second on the power play to close the scoring at 7-1.
 
Keiser allowed five goals on 36 shots in the first 40 minutes. Talarico made 16 saves in the third period. Lakers sophomore goalie Matt Zawadzki (Fort Mill, S.C./Nepean Raiders) made 28 saves to earn his second win of the season.
 
Oswego was 1-for-3 on the man advantage and Potsdam was 0-for-1.
 
The Bears are back in action next Friday, when they host the Curry College Colonels at 7 p.m.
