ELMIRA, N.Y.—No. 2 Elmira College (9-1, 6-0 ECAC West) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (2-6-1, 2-6-1) 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at First Arena in Elmira. Sophomore defenseman
Kady Hart (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam Ice Storm) scored her first collegiate goal for the Bears.
The Soaring Eagles continued their momentum from the previous day, outshooting the Bears 14-6 in the opening period. Anna Tude put Elmira up 1-0 just three 3:38 into the contest. Cassidy Delainey doubled the advantage at the 15:50 mark and Elmira took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Hart scored 2:05 into the second period with assists from sophomore forwards
Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y./Rochester Edge) and
Roberta Beatty (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan/Ontario Hockey Academy) to close to gap to 2-1. The Soaring Eagles answered with four straight goals over the rest of the middle stanza. Ashton Hogan scored two goals four minutes apart to make it a 4-1 game at the 11:22 mark. Delainey notched her second on the power play at 13:26 and Sarah Hughson put Elmira up 6-1 at 17:17.
The Soaring Eagles tacked on two more in the third period. Phoebe Piku scored at 7:16 and Sydney Fischer closed the scoring at 13:19.
In goal freshman
Brianna Fiddler (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Scanlon Creek) made 26 saves in first collegiate start over the first two periods. Junior
Abby Tardelli (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam Ice Storm) stopped 21 shots in the third period. Kelcey Crawford finished with 16 saves for Elmira to earn the victory.
The Bears are back in action next weekend with nonconference games against New England College. Potsdam hosts the Pilgrims at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
