POTSDAM, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-6) suffered a 77-33 defeat to crosstown foe St. Lawrence (4-2) in non-conference action Tuesday night at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium. Senior guard
Carli Reynolds (Indian Lake, N.Y./Indian Lake) led the Bears with 12 points, while Saints freshman guard Shayna Davner (Scarsdale, N.Y./Edgemont) tallied 16 points in the victory.

St. Lawrence hit the ground running to open up the contest. The Saints went on a 26-5 run for much of the first half. At. 8:52, Davner capped it with a 3-pointer. Play evened out the rest of the period with the Bears outscoring St. Lawrence 13-9. Five different Bears scored in the effort. Reynolds finished a layup to close out the half, but the Saints were leading 35-18.

Scoring was slow at the start of the second half. Only two free throws by St. Lawrence added to the score. At 16:47, senior guard
Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) stopped the drought with a jumper to get the Bears within 17. This ignited the Saints offense. St. Lawrence added to their total by going on a 17-4 run to get their lead to 30. Reynolds knocked down a three at 10:36 but Davner answered with a 3-pointer of her own. Bears' offense continued to struggle the rest of the half and the Saints constant scoring put the Bears further and further behind. Davner hit one last layup to end the game and get the 77-33 win.Â

Weigel finished with eight points and team-high 10 rebounds for the Bears and senior forward
Veronica Sapp (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) added four points and six rebounds.

Senior guard Allison Cady (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) recorded 14 points for the Saints, while senior guard Kara McDuffee (Oswego, N.Y./Tioga) finished with nine points and nine rebounds.

Potsdam will travel to Elmira College to take on the Soaring Eagles Saturday at 2 p.m.
