SUNY Potsdam Women's Soccer falls to Elmira College 2-0

Box Score
POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam Women's Soccer team (2-2-1) fell to Elmira College (1-1-1) on Wednesday night at Maxcy Turf Field. The Soaring Eagles scored a goal in each of the periods to take the 2-0 victory.

Elmira got on the board in the 43rd minute as senior midfielder Mackenzie Donohue (Buffalo, N.Y./Nardin Academy) made the cross to junior forward Courtney Burgazil (Middletown, D.E./Appoquinimink) for a 1-0 lead. Freshman goalie Val Driscoll (Yorktown, N.Y./Yorktown) got a piece of the ball, but couldn't control it and it rolled across the line. The Bears had the slight advantage with shots on goal, but the score remained the same at the break.

Donohue did it again for the Soaring Eagles with a goal of her own at the 84:34 mark.  Freshman forward Abby Saturni (Rockville, M.D./Our Lady of Good Counsel) set up Donohue at the top of the box to seal the deal for Elmira. Both teams had strong defensive showings and kept the play at midfield for much of the game.

Driscoll finished with three saves, while sophomore goalie Amanda Banner (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Cedar Creek) stopped three shots for the shutout. The Bears outshot the Soaring Eagles 17-9 and edged them in corner kicks 5-0.

The Bears are back in action Saturday at 4 p.m. when they travel to Utica College to face the Pioneers.
