Volleyball drops Raptors, falls to Lakers on Day 2 of Oswego State Invite

OSWEGO, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (5-6) defeated Bard College (1-10) 3-1 on Saturday at the Oswego State Invitational before falling 3-0 to the host Lakers (6-7). Senior outside hitter Liza Fields (Duanesburg, N.Y./Duanesburg) was named to the all-tournament team.
 
Against the Raptors, the Bears took the first two sets 25-13 and 25-10 before a temporary 25-18 setback in third. They then put the match away with a 25-13 win in the fourth. Ogdensburg native and sophomore outside hitter Felecia Barr (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) led the Potsdam offense with a career and team-high 10 kills. Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Tompkins (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) added a career-high eight kills and Fields had seven to go with six digs. Junior outside hitter Casey Chase (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) chipped in five kills and freshman setter Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) finished with 19 assists and four aces.
 
In the later contest with Oswego, the hosts took consecutive set victories of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-18. Graduate student outside hitter Annie Smith (Chateauguay, N.Y./Chateauguay) had a team-high seven kills for the Bears. Fields added six kills and five digs and Barr had four more for the day. Topf gave Potsdam 21 more assists for the weekend.
 
The Bears are back in action Friday when they head to New York City to take on Richard Stockton in NYU's Violet Invitational.
