BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State (11-3, 6-0 SUNYAC) scored two second half goals as the Bengals defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (8-5-1, 1-4-1) 2-0 on Friday afternoon.
The Bengals controlled the play in the first half. Buffalo State kept the pressure on Potsdam's defense and fired six shots on goal. However, Bears senior goalkeeper
Bri Thibeau (Salem, N.Y./Salem) handled each attempt and the contest was scoreless at the half.
The Bengals finally broke through in the 51st minute. After a Potsdam player was whistled for a foul, Buffalo State's Tianna Hatch converted on a penalty kick to make it 1-0. The Bears were unable to stop the momentum and Victoria Coletti doubled the score with a header at 71:13. Melissa Smith assisted on the goal. Neither team mounted much in the way of chances after the goal and the Bengals closed out the 2-0 win.
Thibeau finished with eight saves for Potsdam. Jessica McCarey was untested as she earned the shutout.
Potsdam looks to bounce back at Fredonia when the Bears face the Blue Devils tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
