Hawks, Dutchwomen sweep Bears at Skidmore Invite

POTSDAM, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (6-25) closed out their season on day two of the Skidmore Invitational. The Bears faced Hartwick College (10-21) and Union College (28-5). The Hawks and the Dutchwomen each shut out the Bears, 3-0.
 
Hartwick took all three sets, 25-16, 25-18 and 25-23. Sophomore utility Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) finished with eight kills and 11 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Tompkins (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) added eight kills of her own. Freshman setter Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) had 26 assists and senior libero Allie Romaniello (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) compiled 15 digs for Potsdam. Kayla Baril led the attack for the Hawks with 15 kills and six digs. Taylor Vonasek added 10 kills, while Quincy Kinzel had 20 assists and five digs. Hannah Armstrong rounded out the high scorers with 12 digs and four aces.
 
In the closing match, Union took three straight sets, 25-14, 25-11 and 25-9. Senior outside hitter Casey Chase (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) finished with four kills, two aces and four digs to lead the Bears. Topf added another nine digs, while Romaniello had three aces and eight digs. Morgan Clark led the offense with seven kills for Union. Amanda Price tallied 20 assists with five digs, while Katherine Moeller was solid for the defense with 16 digs.
 
The contest brings to a close the careers of seniors Allie Romaniello and Casey Chase.
