FREDONIA, N.Y.—The reigning SUNYAC Goalie of the Week posted his second shutout in three games at Fredonia State (4-11-5, 0-8-3 SUNYAC) on Friday night. SUNY Potsdam junior goaltender
Jon Hall (Dexter, N.Y./Stouffville Spirit) stopped all 38 shots he faced to lead the Bears (8-9-3, 4-5-2) to 2-0 victory over the Blue Devils. Junior forward
Billy Pascalli (Deer Park, N.Y./New York Bobcats) and freshman forward
Dylan Vander Esch (San Jose, Calif./Hartford Wolfpack) did all the damage for the Bears. The win was Potsdam's first at Fredonia since Nov. 4, 2006.
Pascalli got the Bears' the only goal they'd need 4:54 into the contest. Sophomore forward
Tommy Telesca (Selden, N.Y./New York Bobcats) carried the puck to the left side of the net and sent a no-look drop pass to Pascalli who buried it. Each team couldn't convert on a single power-play opportunity and the Blue Devils outshot Potsdam 15-13, but the score was unchanged at the intermission.
Hall and Fredonia goalie Jeff Flagler frustrated both offenses with a combined 29 saves in the second period. The Blue Devils failed to score on two more power plays and the Bears were 0-for-1.
Potsdam killed off two more man advantages in the first seven minutes of the final stanza and Fredonia returned the favor in the next seven. Scoring chances were difficult to come by in the third period and the Bears hung on to their lead. Flagler was pulled with 1:03 remaining and Potsdam made them pay seven seconds later. Senior assistant captain
Ken Simon (Norwell, Mass./Philadelphia Revolution) carried the puck along the left sideboards and fed Vander Esch in the slot to ice the game. Flagler was pulled again with 13 seconds left, but neither team could add another tally.
Flagler also finished with 38 saves. Potsdam was 0-for-4 on the power play and the Blue Devils were 0-for-5.
With the victory, the Bears move into a tie for fifth place with Brockport, just two points out of fourth. Potsdam is now 3-1-1 in its last four games.
The Bears look for a season sweep of Buffalo State tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
