Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 18 Geneseo downs Bears

GENESEO, N.Y.—No. 18 SUNY Geneseo (10-2, 4-2 SUNYAC) used a big first half to defeat the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (4-10, 1-5) 16-4 on Saturday afternoon. Four different Bears scored during the contest, while Blue Knights Katey Hart and Erin Cregan each led Geneseo with three goals and two assists.
 
The Blue Knights built up a 4-0 lead in the first 9:45, before sophomore midfielder Murphy Newman (Canton, N.Y./Berkshire School) got Potsdam on the board with an assist from freshman attack Rachael Huntley (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) at 19:21. Geneseo answered with seven in a row, including Cregan's three and two from Liz Felix, to build an 11-1 lead at 8:11. Senior captain Margaret Wall (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas) and senior attack Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) closed the first half with two goals for Potsdam at 2:47 and 0:23 and the Bears trailed by eight at the break. Junior attack Bri McClusky (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) assisted on Weigel's tally.
 
Geneseo netted the first three of the final period before McClusky made it 14-4 with 8:36 to play. The Blue Knights tacked on another goal apiece from Julia DiPillo and Sam Downs for the 16-4 final.
 
In goal, sophomore Devan Olschewske (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) made seven saves for Potsdam. Claudia Coleates earned the win for Geneseo with two saves in the first half. Laura Passamonte stopped five shots for the Knights in the second half.
 
The Bears are back in action on Tuesday, when they head to Oswego for a 4 p.m. showdown with the Lakers.
