Volleyball drops two on final day of Roadrunner Invite

MAHWAH, N.J.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (4-7) lost a marathon 3-2 decision St. Joseph's College (Long Island) (4-7) before falling to Ithaca College (12-1) 3-0 to close out the Roadrunner Invitational at Ramapo College this weekend.

In the opener, Bears alternated set victories with the Golden Eagles, 21-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-25 and 9-15. Sophomore utility player Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) led Potsdam's attack with 17 kills, while junior outside hitter Stephanie Maddox (Anaheim, Calif./Cornelia Connelly) and senior outside hitter Casey Chase (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) contributed nine and seven, respectively. Freshman setter Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) was impressive again with 35 assists, five aces and 12 digs. Freshman Libero Maddie Paquin (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) had a career-high 23 digs and junior libero Sloane Campbell (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) added 10 digs and four aces. Kiersten Kissinger had 21 kills for St. Joe's, while Courtney Wickline posted 53 assists and Jenna Beekman totaled 31 digs.

The Bombers edged Potsdam in three straight sets 25-23, 25-18 and 25-18. Topf and Maddox each added 10 more kills to their day's work. Rodda compiled another 27 assists and Paquin had 16 digs. Rodda also had nine digs and senior libero Allie Romaniello (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) added six. Amanda Cerruti and Katie Evans each had nine kills for Ithaca. Kayla Gromen totaled 32 assists and Dylan Gawinski-Stern chipped in 18 digs.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday at 4 p.m. when they host Oswego State in the first game of a tri-match with the Lakers and St. Lawrence University at Maxcy Field House.
