POTSDAM, N.Y.—Utica College (10-5-1, 6-2-1 ECAC West) scored a goal in each period to defeat the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (6-11-2, 1-10-1) 3-0 on Friday night at Maxcy Ice Arena. Senior assistant captain Abby Tardelli (Potsdam, N.Y./North Country Ice Storm) made 34 saves for the Bears.
 
Freshman forward Taylor Dion (Colchester, Vt./Boston Shamrocks) put the Pioneers up for good at the 15:55 mark of the first period, with an assist from sophomore forward Kelly Crizter (West Salem, Ohio/Ohio Flames). Tardelli stopped 11 shots in the opening 20 minutes.
 
Sophomore forward Meghan Power (Windsor, Ontario/Neumann) doubled the advantage with a helper from fellow sophomore forward Carlie Smith (Grimsby, Ontario/St. Catharine's Chaos) at 6:48 of the second period. After the goal, Utica killed off two Potsdam power plays. Tardelli turned aside 15 more shots in the middle stanza.  
 
The teams combined for just 15 shots in the third period, with the Pioneers finishing with a 9-6 edge. Senior forward Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, Fla./Cushing Academy) closed the scoring with just 1:52 remaining. Junior forward Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, Mich./Belle Tire) and freshman forward Lauren Patterson (Burlington, Ontario/Oakville) each assisted on the goal.
 
Utica junior goaltender Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Hotchkiss School) made 26 saves to earn the shutout. Potsdam was 0-for-6 on the man advantage and the the Pioneers were 0-for-3.
 
The two teams head to the Utica Auditorium tomorrow afternoon for a 4 p.m. contest.
