Blue Knights run past Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y.- SUNY Geneseo (10-4, 5-2 SUNYAC) defeated SUNY Potsdam women's basketball (1-15, 0-9 SUNYAC) Saturday night at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium with a score of 75-32.  Freshman guard Secret Clark (Bronx, N.Y./NYC Charter for A.E.C.I.) led the Bears with nine points and three steals, while senior guard Dana Cohan (Greece, N.Y./Greece Athena) finished with 18 points and six assists for the Blue Knights.
 
Geneseo opened the game with a 14-0 run before senior forward Veronica Sapp (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) got Potsdam on the board with a layup. The quick start from the Blue Knights got the Bears in a hole early with a 24-7 score after the first quarter.
 
Geneseo continued their hot scoring into the second with another 21 points, while the Bears still struggled to find their offensive rhythm. The Blue Knights took the 45-15 lead into halftime.
 
Play evened out during the third quarter with both teams scoring 13 points. The Bears got threes from freshman Abbey Smith (Bainbridge, N.Y./Bainbridge-Guilford), freshman guard Janay Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Wings Academy) and Clark.  The final quarter the Blue Knights extended their lead and sealed the 75-32 win.
 
Senior forward Katie LaVoie (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) tallied six points and junior forward Patti Dorgler (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) grabbed team-high five rebounds.  For the Blue Knights, junior guard Katie Durand (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) and senior forward Allison McKenna (Huntington, N.Y./John H. Glenn) each added 13 points, while McKenna recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds.
 
The Bears will travel to SUNY Fredonia to battle the Blue Devils Friday at 5:30 p.m.
