Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bears battle to Lakers to scoreless draw

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (7-3-1, 0-2-1) battled Oswego State (4-3-3, 1-2-1) for 110 minutes, but neither team could crack the other's defense on Saturday afternoon.

Defense controlled the game throughout the first half. The teams combined for just five shots in the opening 45 minutes. Potsdam senior goalie Bri Thibeau (Salem, N.Y./Salem) handled the only shot that came her way.

Thibeau stymied sophomore midfielder Audrey Burbidge (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) twice in the first 11 minutes on the second half. While the Lakers would take seven more shots in the period, only one more would reach Thibeau. After struggling for offense for most of the afternoon, the Bears got two strong chances in the final minute. Sophomore midfielder Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) broke free on the right side with just over a minute left in regulation. She launched a long shot, but Oswego senior goalie Melissa Siegfried (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) made a diving save with 58 seconds remaining. That set up a corner kick from senior captain Kaylen Van Wagner (Red Hook, N.Y./Hotchkiss). Falsion headed the kick just wide with 22 seconds on the clock.

Oswego registered the only three shots of the first 10-minute overtime period, but Thibeau handled the only one that actually reached her. She then made two more stops in the second overtime to seal the draw.

Thibeau finished with seven saves to earn her 12th collegiate shutout. Siegfried made one save.

The Bears are on the road next weekend. They head to New Paltz for a 3 p.m. contest on Friday, followed by 1 p.m. contest on Saturday at Oneonta.
