Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bengals pull away from Bears in second half

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State (5-1, 1-1 SUNYAC) shook off an early deficit and had a big second half to down the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-4, 0-2) 91-67 in SUNYAC play on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore guard Dante Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville) led the Bears with 23 points and three steals. Freshmen guards Jayquan Thomas (Hollis, N.Y./Richmond Hill) and Danny Delsol-Lowry (Queens, N.Y./Queens High School of Teaching) had 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Hot shooting kept Potsdam out in front of the Bengals for most of the first half. Thomas had all 13 of his points in the period and Delsol-Lowry had seven. A Thomas free throw at 6:41 to complete a three-point play gave the Bears their biggest lead of the game at 27-18. Buffalo State answered with a surge of its own started by a Dom Grayer 3-pointer 15 seconds later. O.J. Spence scored on a layup to give the Bengals a 34-33 lead at 2:39 and cap a 16-6 run. A Spence jumper gave the Bengals their biggest advantage of the half at 39-33 with 1:48 to play. Two Desol-Lowry free throws and a three from sophomore guard Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) got Potsdam to within 43-38 at the break.

Buffalo State started quickly in the second half with a 9-2 run and pulled away. Langley was impressive for the Bears, scoring 17 points in the final 20 minutes. Despite his individual performance, the Bengals closed out the 91-67 victory.

Onabor finished with eight points and freshman center Kristoff Saunders (Queens, N.Y./Queens High School of Teaching) pulled in a game-high nine rebounds. Nico McLean scored a contest-best 22 points for Buffalo State. Spence finished with 12 points and Mike Henry chipped in 11.
