BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport (16-9, 11-7 SUNYAC) held off the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-24, 1-17) 92-76 in the season finale on Saturday afternoon. In his final game, Bears senior guard
Joe Estramonte (Greenwich, N.Y./Greenwich) scored 27 points. Freshmen
Tyrone Adeyeye (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) and
Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) also reached double-digits with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Clifton Lyerly had a game-high 31 points for the Golden Eagles, while Levi Pace recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards.
Brockport opened the contest with an 11-5 run over the first 4:21. Potsdam bounced back with a 9-0 run on two 3-pointers from Onabor and three free throws from Estramonte to grab a 14-13 lead at 12:22. The Golden Eagles sank their next two shots to regain the 17-14 lead, but Estramonte answered again with a layup and a three to put the Bears up 19-17. The teams traded leads for the next six minutes. Senior guard
Mitch Lamerson (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville) hit a three at 7:25 for a 24-23 lead and freshman forward
Serigne Kane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Prep) dunked at 5:46 to make it 26-25. At 4:28, sophomore forward
Josh Blagrove (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) sank two free throws give Potsdam its final lead of 32-31. Brockport finished the half with a 10-4 run and took a 41-36 lead into the locker room.
The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 54-43 over the opening 3:50 of the second half. Estramonte hit consecutive 3-pointers to get the Bears within 64-56 with 10:20 to play. Brockport built it's lead back to double-digits again after the field goals and went on to the 92-76 victory.
The contest marks the end of the careers of seniors Estramonte and Lamerson. Estramonte finished his four seasons in a Bears uniform with 972 points.
