Bears bow to No. 12 Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The undefeated and 12th-ranked College at Brockport (11-0, 4-0 SUNYAC) stayed hot with a 22-6 victory over the visiting SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (6-5, 2-2) on Saturday afternoon. Bears junior midfielder Murphy Newman (Canton, N.Y./Berkshire School) had three goals and sophomore attack Rachael Huntley (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) recorded a goal and two assists. Senior midfielder Bri McClusky (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) finished the day with a goal and an assist.
 
Newman got Potsdam on the board at 28:41 of the opening half, getting the Bears within 2-1. Huntley set up Newman three minutes later to slim the Golden Eagles' lead to 5-2. The duo connected again at 19:29 to make it an 8-3 contest. Brockport pulled away after the goal, netting the next eight in a row to close the half.
 
McClusky scored at 23:06 of the second half and Huntley struck at 10:31. Junior attack Katie Lapinski (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) buried a pass from McClusky with 6:55 remaining for the Bears' final goal.
 
Between the pipes, junior Devan Olschewske (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) made 11 saves in the first 47:05. Freshman Katie Longamore (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) made two saves in the closing 12:55. Sara Shaddock earned the win for the Golden Eagles with one save in the first half. Paige Lammes stopped three shots in the final 30 minutes.
 
Senior defender Maggie McCabe (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) picked up three more draw controls to move her past Emily Petit '15 into fifth place on the on Potsdam's all-time list with 82.
 
The Bears wrap up the regular season with a four-game home stand beginning Tuesday. Potsdam hosts SUNY Oneonta at 4 p.m. for a critical SUNYAC contest as the Bears push for a postseason berth.
