CANTON, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball improved to 4-0 with a 3-1 victory over SUNY Poly (2-1) on Saturday afternoon at the SUNY Canton Invitational. The win gave the Bears the tournament title. Potsdam topped the Wildcats with match scores of 27-25, 25-22, 27-29 and 25-23.
Bears compiled 61 kills, 55 assists and 80 digs in the contest. Sophomore setter
Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y/Sachem East) totaled 36 assists and added seve kills. Junior opposite
Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) led Potsdam's offense with 12 kills, while junior outside hitter
Kelsey Tompkins (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) was right behind her with 11 of her own. Senior libero
Sloane Campbell (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) racked up 20 digs and Topf contributed another 18 of her own. Tompkins and junior outside hitter
Kelsea Healis (Rohnert park, Calif/Rancho Cotate) led the team in blocks with 4 and 3, respectively.
For SUNY Poly, Sydney Johnson led the team with 46 assists, while teammate Ryenn Smith had 6 aces on the day. Smith also had 17 kills and 17 digs in her efforts. Melissa Krak also contributed with 19 digs and 15 kills for the Wildcats.
SUNY Potsdam is back in action next Friday when they host CÉGEP André-Laurendeau to open the 2016 Victory Promotions Invitational.
