Box Score 2 UTICA, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (12-4) opened the Utica College Tournament with two victories over Lasell College (4-10) and Utica College (5-15) Friday evening at Harold T. Clark Athletic Center.
The Bears rolled through the Lasers by 25-16, 25-15 and 25-20 scores in the opener. Junior outside hitter
Kelsey Tompkins (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) led Potsdam offense with 10 kills and junior opposite
Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) added eight and a team-high 14 digs. Senior outside hitter
Stephanie Maddox (Anaheim, Calif./Cornelia Connelly) and junior outside hitter
Kelsea Healis (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate) also had eight kills along with five and seven digs, respectively. Senior middle hitter
Megan Smith (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs) contributed seven kills and sophomore setter
Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) totaled 30 assists and three aces.
During the second match of the evening, Potsdam swept the Pioneers by 25-14, 25-11 and 24-19. Topf had another team-high for the day with 11 kills, six aces and added eight digs. Healis followed with 10 kills and 11 digs, while Maddox tallied eight kills for the Bears. Rodda recorded 34 assists with five digs and Tompkins totaled seven kills. Sophomore libero
Maddie Kaplan (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) finished with 10 digs in the three set victory.
Potsdam will start day two with Wells College at 12 p.m. then the Bears will end the day with Stevens Institute of Technology at 2 p.m.
