Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bears hit century mark, but fall at Plattsburgh 113-100

Sophomore guard Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) matched a career-high 32 points and the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-16, 0-9 SUNYAC) scored 100 points for the first time in four years, but Plattsburgh State (8-9, 4-7) held on for a 113-100 win on Tuesday night. Freshmen guards Jayquan Thomas (Hollis, N.Y./Richmond Hill) and Danny Delsol-Lowry (Queens, N.Y./Queens High School of Teaching) had 17 and 15 points for the Bears, respectively.

The Cardinals raced out to a 26-7 lead over the first 6:12 of the contest. Chris Middleton had eight points during the stretch. Hot shooting from Onabor and Thomas prevented Plattsburgh from getting much farther ahead. Two free throws from Delsol-Lowry cut the deficit to 54-38 at 4:41 and signaled the beginning of Potsdam's comeback. The Bears outscored the Cardinals 15-6 over the rest of the half and they trailed just 62-53 at the break. Thomas scored eight points during the run and freshman guard Aaron Armstrong (Lisbon, N.Y./Madrid-Waddington) had four.

Potsdam pushed the Plattsburgh early in the second half. Onabor scored nine points in the opening 4:42, capped by a 3-pointer to close the gap to 72-68. Unfortunately, while the Cardinals couldn't shake the Bears, Potsdam couldn't get any closer. A Delsol-Lowry layup at 14:14 cut the deficit to 74-70 and a three from sophomore guard Dante Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville) got the Bears within 81-77 with 9:23 to play. Plattsburgh pulled away again with a 19-9 run to grab a 100-86 advantage at 5:50 and was able to prevent another Potsdam push.

The Cardinals had big days from four players. Eli Bryant had 23 points and eight assists. Middleton finished with 21 points, four assists and six rebounds. Jonathan Patron scored 19 points and grabbed five boards, while Ian Howard contributed a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor. Plattsburgh hit nearly 52 percent of its 3-point attempts (16-31) and Potsdam hits nearly 89 percent of its free throws (23-26). The Cardinals edged the Bears 37-36 in rebounds.

Potsdam is back in action on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. when it hosts SUNY New Paltz on Bear Pride Night.
