Bears fall to Red Dragons late

POTSDAM, N.Y.- SUNY Oneonta (12-7, 9-3 SUNYAC) battled back to take down the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (2-16, 1-12 SUNYAC) Saturday evening 67-50. Senior captain Patti Dorgler (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molly) recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds for a game-high, while sophomore forward Madeline Frank (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) matched her with a double-double with 21 points and 12 boards to lead the Red Dragons.

Potsdam jumped out to an 14-11 lead after the first quarter. Junior Emily Drake (Athens, N.Y./Coxsackie-Athens) put up four points for the Bears with Dorgler adding five and Driscoll chipped in the other five points. Frank contributed four points to their 11-point total.

Sophomore guard Abbey Smith (Bainbridge, N.Y./Bainbridge-Guilford) ignited the 14-point quarter for the Bears with Dorgler, Drake and freshman guard Drew Dufrane (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) also pitching in. Potsdam's defense held Oneonta to nine points and the Bears went into the locker room with an eight-point lead.

The Red Dragons' offense exploded for 21 points in the second quarter and held Potsdam to 13. Oneonta started the 10 minutes off with 10 straight points before Driscoll hit a jumper. The game was tied at 42 apiece going into the final quarter. Driscoll and sophomore forward Victoria Shopovick (White Plains, N.Y./Maria Regina) put up four points each.

The fourth quarter started the same as the third with nine points over the first three minutes from the Red Dragons and Oneonta kept their foot on the gas pedal for a 26-point quarter. Driscoll, Dufrane, Smith and Drake combined for the Bears scoring, but it wasn't enough to make up the deficit.

Driscoll finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Drake tacked on 10 points and nine boards for Potsdam.

Senior guard Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) recorded 15 points on the night and freshman guard Alexa Amalbert (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) added eight points. Junior guard Samantha Lisikatos (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) had a game-high six assists.
