POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (7-10) closed out its season with a 1-0 victory at Clarkson University (7-7-2) on Tuesday night. Senior forward Ritchie Hetherington (Falkirk, Scotland/Herkimer Community College) scored in the 75th minute to give the Bears the win. Senior goalie Keagan Briggs (Peru, N.Y./Seton Catholic) made five saves for his first career shutout.
 
The first half was tightly contested, with Clarkson building a 6-4 advantage in shots. Briggs turned away two Golden Knight chances and Clarkson goalie Riley McDonald made one save. The contest was still scoreless at the break.
 
Clarkson fired 12 shots in the second half, but only three made it to Briggs and he stopped each one. The Bears answered with four shots, but only needed one. At 74:32, Hetherington picked up the ball at the left side of the net after a deflection and beat McDonald.
 
The Bears and Briggs have now beaten the Golden Knights in two straight contests and Potsdam has won four of the last six in the series.
 
The contest marks the ends of the careers of Potsdam's nine seniors Briggs, Hetherington, Chris Schrum (Manhattan, N.Y./Millennium), Chris Mayrose (Akron, N.Y./Akron), Matthew Wagner (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville), Djavan Guy (New York City, N.Y./Saint John's Prep), Spencer Johnston (Valatie, N.Y./Hudson Valley C.C.), Brandon Laurin (Chazy, N.Y./Chazy) and Ebuka Ononye (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam).
