Oneonta halts streaking Bears, 4-1

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Oneonta (2-9-1, 2-4-1 SUNYAC) scored two goals in each half to defeat the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (9-3-2, 3-1-1) 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. Junior midfielder Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Berkley) scored the lone goal for the Bears.

Red Dragons junior Seaver Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) finished a perfect pass from freshman forward Micaela Honsinger (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) to open the scoring at 25:52. Less than five minutes later, junior midfielder Morgan Downin (Franklin, N.Y./Longview) knocked home a loose ball after a corner kick to make it a 2-0 lead, which Oneonta carried into the half.

The play was more balanced for the first 25 minutes of the second half. In the 74th minute, Potsdam junior Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) was tripped up entering the left side of the box and the Bears were awarded a penalty kick. As she has two other times this season, Murray buried the attempt at 73:10 to cut the deficit in half. The goal gave Potsdam some momentum over the next few minutes, but they weren't able to draw even. At 80:08, junior midfielder Julie Steinhauer (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) scored off her own rebound to make it 3-1. Less than three minutes later, senior midfielder Laura Rolston (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) knocked home a corner kick from Lipshie to close the scoring at 4-1.

Bears freshman goalie Gabby Hobika (New Hartford, N.Y./Hartford) finished with five saves and Red Dragons senior goalie Melissa Muller (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) stopped four shots for the shutout.

Potsdam looks to bounce back when the Bears travel to SUNY Canton on Tuesday night for the annual Boyd Jones Cup at 7 p.m.
