The Soaring Eagles scored three times in the first period. Louisa Lippiatt Durnell opened the scoring at the 2:30 mark. Just over four minutes later Jessica Prance scored the eventual game winner. At 13:23, Arianna Smith made it 3-0 and Elmira took the lead into the first break.
Maddy Jerolman increased the advantage to four 1:02 into the second period. The Soaring Eagles continued to press and kept Potsdam on the defensive.
Elmira was whistled for a cross check 43 seconds into the third period and the Bears took advantage. Junior assistant captain
Anna-Rose Bertin (Marathon, Ontario/Canadian International Hockey Academy) connected with Peterson at 2:39 to close the gap to 4-1. The Soaring Eagles tacked on two final goals as time wound down. Sarah Hughson lit the lamp at 11:40 and Tiia Hertto closed the scoring at 15:08.
Bears freshman goaltender
Alexa Pfeiffer (Sylvania, Ohio/Little Caesar's) made 18 saves and allowed four goals over the first 21:02. Freshman
Kayla McCabe (Watertown, N.Y./Syracuse Nationals) stopped 23 shots and allowed two goals in the final 38:58. Kyle Nelson made 13 saves to earn the win for Elmira.
Potsdam was 1-for-3 on the man advantage, while keeping the Soaring Eagles scoreless in four attempts.
The sixth seeded Bears will now prepare for the ECAC West Quarterfinal matchup at third seeded Buffalo State on Thursday at 7 p.m.
