Chelsea Streeter (Massena, N.Y./Massena) was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
The Red Dragons jumped out in front 1-0 in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by center fielder Dana DelGenio. Oneonta added two more in the third on an error and another RBI single from third baseman Kate Jencarelli. A passed ball made it 4-0 an inning later.
Potsdam rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth. Freshman designated player
Megan Fish (Getzville, N.Y. / Williamsville North) led off with a walk and two batters later, Streeter singled. Stevens made it 4-2 with a double to left that scored Streeter and junior pitcher
Meghan Dougherty (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia).
The Red Dragons put the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Second baseman Brooke Corbett knocked in one with a single to left. DelGenio the ripped a two-out double to center field that cleared the bases and closed the scoring at 8-2.
Dougherty (0-3) was the tough luck loser as only one of the eight runs she allowed in six innings was earned. She walked two and struck out two. Sabrina DeAngelis (5-1) was a strong as ever for Oneonta. She allowed two runs on three hits, while striking out 11 and walking four.
The Bears wasted no time in game two. Ott led off the contest with a walk and Fish doubled her in two batters later. With two outs, Stevens drove Fish in with a double to left to make it 2-0.
The Red Dragons offense went back to work in the bottom of the first, scoring eight runs on eight singles and a double. Catcher Selena Ruiz singled in the first run and DelGenio tied the game with another single. Jencarelli put Oneonta up for good with single to left. Pinch hitter Cori McFall drove in two more with another single to left. Left fielder Katie O'Gorman made it 7-2 with a single to center. Ruiz then closed the scoring in the same manner she opened it, with her second RBI single of the inning.
Potsdam got one back in the top of the fourth. Stevens reached on an error and Streeter doubled her home. The Bears threatened for more, but couldn't close the gap any further. A fielder's choice and a wild pitch allowed Oneonta to add two more runs for a 10-3 advantage in the bottom of the fourth. DelGenio ended the contest in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double to make it 11-3.
Sophomore pitcher
Alissa McCauley (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) (1-3) was roughed up for eight runs on eight hits in 0.2 innings pitched. Fish allowed three more on six hits in the last four innings. She struck out three. Amanda Graziano (4-2) earned the win after allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and a walk. She struck out five.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. when they face SUNY New Paltz in Chester, N.Y.
