Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bruschini scores twice as Bears rally past Oswego, 3-1

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Sophomore midfielder Theodore Bruschini (Wilton, N.Y./South Glens Falls) scored twice to the lead the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (5-5, 1-2 SUNYAC) to a come-from-behind 3-1 win over Oswego State. Senior Ritchie Hetherington (Falkirk, Scotland/Herkimer Community College) also scored and junior forward Matt Saddlemire (Gansevoort, N.Y./Schuylerville) registered two assists for the first points of his collegiate career.

Potsdam outplayed the Lakers at times during the first half, building a 10-4 advantage in shots. However, Oswego made the most the pressure it created. Just under 10 minutes into the contest, the Lakers used impressive ball movement to create their first strong scoring chance, but the shot sailed high. At the 10:20 mark, Oswego junior midfielder Karebo Wilson (Syracuse, N.Y./Fowler) played the ball ahead to junior forward Hassan Musa (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham). Musa walked in and fired a bouncing shot off Bears senior goalie Keagen Briggs (Peru, N.Y./Seton Catholic) for a 1-0 lead. Potsdam answered nearly 13 minutes later. Saddlemire (Gansevoort, N.Y./Schuylerville) connected with Bruschini for his third goal of the year to tie the game. The scored was still knotted at one apiece at the half.

Potsdam jumped out in front 10 minutes into the final period. Saddlemire played a booming goal kick at midfield to Hetherington on the right side. He sprinted ahead and beat Lakers freshman goalie Brian Terra (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) to his right to make it 2-1 at 55:45. In the 68th minute, Bruschini struck again, sending a direct kick off the wall in front of him and into the right corner of the goal. The Bears defense shut down the Lakers the rest of the way. Briggs was tested one final time with 33 seconds left, but handled the shot without a problem.

Briggs finished with three saves to earn his first career SUNYAC victory. Terra stopped eight shots for Oswego.

Potsdam outshot the Lakers 19-10, but Oswego finished with a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bears head to SUNY New Paltz for a 3 p.m. contest on Friday and then to SUNY Oneonta on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
