Red Dragons handle Bears

CORTLAND, N.Y.—SUNY Cortland (8-5, 7-1 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-13, 0-8) 83-46 on Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Drew Dufrane (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) led the Bears with nine points and junior guard Abbey Smith (Bainbridge, N.Y./Bainbridge-Guilford) contributed eight points and a game-high six assists. Junior guard Riley Luckie (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) and freshman guard Mia Jackson (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Hall V) each scored seven and freshman center Naya Walters (Bronx, N.Y./Women's Academy of Excellence) finished with six and a contest-best nine rebounds.
 
The Red Dragons outscored Potsdam 18-7 in the opening quarter and never relinquished control of the game. Shana Crespo led all scorers with 20 points. Tanna Mohammed contributed 15 points and Shannon McGuire added nine. Kerry McHugh and Joka Oyefeso each had six points.
 
The Bears return to Jerry Welsh Gymnasium for their first home game of 2018 on Friday when they take on Brockport at 5:30 p.m.
