Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Red Dragons edge Bears in OT, 1-0

CORTLAND, N.Y.—SUNY Cortland (7-9-2, 2-8-1 NEWHL) scored 1:59 into overtime to defeat the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (9-7-2, 2-7-2) 1-0 on Friday afternoon. Bears Freshman goalie Samantha White (Oceanside, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) finished with 32 saves.

White and Red Dragons goalie Rachael Farmer battled through the entire contest, frustrating opposing offenses. Potsdam killed off a penalty in a tightly contested first period. Neither team was able to capitalize on a power play in the second period, though Cortland was able to generate 13 shots to the Bears' six. With 3:51 remaining in the third period, the Red Dragons went on their final man advantage, but couldn't find the back of the net. With 48 seconds left, Farmer robbed senior assistant captain Jaci Morr (Monroe, Mich./Team Detroit) with her glove to send the game into overtime. Cortland managed the only two shots of the extra session and Miranda Kol, who has three of the Red Dragons four goals against Potsdam this season, struck again to close out the contest.

Farmer stopped 27 shots for her second shutout of the season.

The Bears outshot Cortland 33-27 and were 0-for-1 on the power play. The Red Dragons were 0-for-3 on the man advantage.

The teams wrap up the season series at Maxcy Ice Arena tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. Come out and "Pack the Place" and help the women's hockey team set their program attendance record. There will be contests and prizes as the Bears celebrate the approaching National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
