POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (8-13) forced a fifth set after trailing 2-0 to St. Lawrence University (14-7) before falling 3-2 on Wednesday night. Sophomore outside hitter
Nicole Hansen (Fulton, N.Y./ G. Ray Bodley) led the Bears with a career-high 15 kills and senior setter
Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) added a game-high 40 assists along with 10 digs.
The Saints took sets one and two by 25-17 and 25-11 scores. Set three was tied 17-17 before the Bears captured their first win with an 8-2 finish. SLU was one point away from taking the match in set four up 24-20, but again Potsdam answered for the 29-27 win. The situation was reversed in set five with the Bears up 13-9, but the Saints found a way to grab the set and the match with a 15-13 victory.
Sophomore outside hitter
Gabby Scott (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) also had a strong effort for Potsdam with 13 kills, 15 digs, an ace and a block. Freshman middle hitter
Emme Price (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley) posted seven kills and two blocks. Junior libero
Natalie Magallon (Commerce, Calif./Bell Gardens) contributed a contest-best 27 digs and two aces, while sophomore middle hitter
Monica Mack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) chipped in three blocks.
The Bears head to Western Connecticut State for a tri-match on Saturday. They face Keene State at 2 p.m. and the host Colonials at 4 p.m.
