Pacers rally past Bears, 74-69

SCRANTON, PA.—Marywood University (4-3) rallied in each half to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-3) 74-69 on Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Jayquan Thomas (Hollis, N.Y./Richmond Hill) led the Bears with 18 points and eight rebounds, while junior center Kristoff Saunders (Queens, N.Y./Queens High School of Teaching) had 10 points and seven boards. Seniors guards Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) and Dante Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville) recorded 14 points and six rebounds and 12 points and four rebounds, respectively.
 
Potsdam used a 14-5 run in the first seven minutes of the game to open up an 18-8 lead over the Pacers in the first half. Saunders and Langley each had four points during the stretch and junior guard Danny Delsol-Lowry (Queens, N.Y./Queens High School of Teaching) sank a 3-pointer. However, Marywood stormed back to close the half with a 27-12 run to take a 35-30 advantage into the locker room. Thomas had eight first half points for Potsdam and Saunders finished with six. Jeremy Ringland and Jack DeGroot led the Pacers' charge with 11 first half points apiece and Thomas Swartz and Zach Tinkham each chipped in five. After a slow start, Marywood shot 48.3 percent from the floor in the first half to the Bears' 33.3. Potsdam won the rebounding battle 24-19.
 
Hot shooting helped the Bears to a 17-9 run to open the second half and a 47-44 lead with 12:39 remaining. Thomas had nine points during the span. The Pacers rallied again with 11 of the next 13 points for a 55-49 advantage with 9:57 to play. Potsdam countered again with an 8-0 run, including five straight from Onabor. The Bears couldn't shake the Pacers, but held the lead until Tone Cockrell tied the game at 64 all on a layup with 3:39 left. Marywood then won the game from the charity stripe. The Pacers scored eight of their final 10 points from the line as they held on for the 74-69 victory.
 
DeGroot finished with 19 points to lead the Pacers, while Ringland had 15, Swartz had 14 and Adam Broussatta scored 10.
 
Marywood shot 47.4 percent from the floor and held Potsdam to 38.6. The Bears outrebounded the Pacers 42-39.
 
Potsdam is back home to host Clarkson University at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night.
