LA PLUME, PA.—The SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (6-5) overpowered Keystone College (0-9) 81-69 to close the 2018 portion of its schedule. Senior guards
Dante Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville) and
Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) each led the Bears with game-highs of 20 points.
The Giants raced out to an 8-4 lead over the first three minutes, but they couldn't hold off Potsdam. The Bears countered with a 20-5 run to grab a 24-13 lead at 10:12. Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville) scored 12 points during the span and
Nosa Onabor hit two 3-pointers, including one to cap the run. The Giants hung within six to eight points for the next few minutes, but an 8-0 burst put Potsdam up 40-26 with 3:08 to play. Senior forward
Serigne Kane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Prep) hit a jumper followed by back-to-back threes from junior guard
Jayquan Thomas (Hollis, N.Y./Richmond Hill) and Onabor. Onabor completed a three-point play with 55 seconds left to put the Bears up 15. Potsdam led 47-34 at the half, thanks in part to 18 points from Langley and 12 from Onabor.
The Bears continued to pull away from the Giants in the second half. A Thomas layup at 13:27 put Potsdam up 60-40 at 13:27. About four minutes later, Onabor drained a 3-pointer to ignite a 13-0 run and Potsdam led 75-45 with 6:45 to play. Five different Bears scored during the stretch. With a lot of ground to make up, the Giants went on a 15-0 run in 2:10 and trailed 81-69 with 1:29 left. However, neither team scored the rest of the way as Potsdam closed out its sixth win of the season.
Thomas finished with 17 points and five assists and Kane added 10 points and six boards.
Javonte Matthews led Keystone with 17 points, while Jeremy Jordan registered 14 points.
The Bears shot nearly 52 percent from the floor, while holding the Giants to 41.5. Potsdam also outrebounded Keystone 37-33.
