No. 10 Oneonta downs Bears

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (3-13-1, 1-7-0 SUNYAC) opened their final weekend of SUNYAC play on the road at SUNY Oneonta (14-2-0, 7-1-0 SUNYAC) on Friday afternoon. The Red Dragons swarmed to a 9-1 victory. Freshman defender Raymond Jones (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) scored his first career collegiate goal for the Bears.

It didn't take long for the Red Dragons to get on the board in the first half. Just 3:28 into the game, Douglas Minogue scored on a cross-field feed from Ian Zingaro that Bears sophomore keeper Conor Callan (Piermont, N.Y./Tappan Zee) nearly intercepted. The Red Dragons offense continued to pressure the Bears following the goal, scoring three more times before the halfway mark of the first half. Witman Hernandez scored twice in-a-row and Matt Howe tallied the fourth Oneonta goal. The Bears got on the board with Jones' marker at the 24:33 mark. Freshman forward Andrew Spagnuolo (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) assisted on the goal. The Red Dragons then controlled play the rest of the way. Roberto Ventura and Nick Dillmann scored the final goals of the half, both assisted by Hernandez.

The Bears continued to work hard in the second half, but Oneonta wore them down. Giraldo Ritaccio scored the next two for the Red Dragons. The offese was closed out by Denis Fleming's goal in the 85th minute of play.

Nate Hanna manned the Oneonta net in the first half, with Jake Meaney relieving him in the second to combine for the victory. Callan stopped 11 shots for the Bears.

Potsdam is back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. as the Bears close out their SUNYAC schedule against SUNY New Paltz. Potsdam will finishes its season Tuesday night at crosstown rival Clarkson University for a 7 p.m. match.
