Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Golden Knights score late to edge Bears in season finale, 1-0

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (3-14-2) battled evenly with Clarkson University (9-4-3) for 85 minutes before the Golden Knights scored to capture the 1-0 win. Senior goalkeeper Esdras Juarez (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Tuckahoe) was impressive again with six saves.

The Bears pushed Clarkson from the get go, outshooting them 7-5 in the first half. The pressure resulted in three corner kicks. Senior forward Teddy Bruschini (Wilton, N.Y./South Glens Falls) tested Golden Knights goalie Noah Bell three times in the first half, but Bell stopped each chance and finished the first half with five saves. Juarez made two saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the contest scoreless at the break.

Bears senior forward Alejandro Callejas (Bayshore, N.Y./Brentwood) and freshman midfielder Justin Lamando (East Islip. N.Y./East Islip) each fired on Bell in the first 1:17 of the second half, but Potsdam was frustrated again. Clarkson responded with a flurry over the next 10 minutes, but Juarez made four saves during the span. The Knights finally broke through at 85:30 as Mack Walton picked up a long pass and buried the game-winner. The Bears had a final corner kick with 59 seconds left, but Clarkson was able to diffuse the chance and hang on.

Bell finished with eight saves for the shutout. The Knights edged the Bears 12-11 in shots, but Potsdam created seven corner kicks to Clarkson's five.

The contest marks the completion of the careers of seniors Bruschini, Callejas, Juarez, captain Wilber Parada (Huntington Station, N.Y./Huntington), captain Jeffrey Schulz (East Moriches, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) and Brandon Igiehon (Dublin, Ireland/Channel View School).
