POTSDAM, N.Y.—Top-ranked Plattsburgh State (8-1, 7-0 NEWHL) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (4-5, 3-5) 7-0 on Wednesday night. Senior goalies
Kayla McCabe (Watertown, N.Y./Syracuse Nationals) and
Alexa Pfeiffer (Sylvania, Ohio/Little Caesar's) combined to make 52 saves for the Bears.
Taylor Whitney, Abby Brush and Kaitlin Drew-Mead each scored in the first period for the Cardinals. Sarah Wolf, Ivy Boric and Brush added three more in the second and Sarah Krauseneck tacked on one more in the third.
McCabe stopped 36 shots and allowed six goals through the first 20 minutes. Pfeiffer allowed a goal and made 16 saves in the third period. Ashley Davis stopped all 14 shots she faced for the win.
The Bears were 0-for-3 on the power play and the Cardinals were 0-for-2.
Potsdam wraps up the semester on Saturday, when the Bears host NESCAC foe Hamilton College at 3 p.m. Potsdam is 2-2 in its last four meetings with the Continentals.
